SEO 101 SEO Through Content Quality

By Dwayne Goerges of www.topwebsitetips.com

What seems to come first when many SEO Gurus create a new website? You look at the sites of many of these gurus and what do you see? Keyword stuffing, spun pages, pages loaded with misused headers, bold tags, italics etc.

Something that is often overlooked is the point that if their SEO works, someone is going to click on a search result and go to the page actually thinking they’re going to find something useful. Instead they find yet another site with little or no value and move on (of course the webmaster is hoping they move on by clicking another AdSense ad).Sad to say, Yes, this form of SEO still works, but for how long?

The goal of Search Engines

If you plan on having a website that remains strong for the long term it is advised to consider the future of search. First thing to remember is that the search engines owe nothing to the webmasters and could really care less if an individual website ranks well and is profitable or not.

The search engines care about Searchers: To this end some of the world’s best SEO gurus (yes, I’m talking about those who Google, Yahoo, and Bing talk into working for them) are diligently working to improve the search results so only the best content is displayed in their searches. If your SEO efforts are spent on looking for loopholes to get your site to rank better than it really should, then you’re in for a constant battle. The search engines will continue to get better at distinguishing between good and poor content and your job is going to keep getting harder.

Long Term SEO

This is where “SEO through Content Quality” comes in. Content quality is rarely considered a factor in SEO at least by many of the SEO Gurus. But let’s talk about why they are wrong and how content quality affect SEO.

1) Introducing keywords in the text: Guru’s like to use terms like “keyword density” to come up with some magic number that is going to make your page rank well for a specific keyword. The problem is no one likes to read an article where particular words are repeated in an unnatural manner. Real writers know to use synonyms (different words with almost identical or similar meanings) to make an article read better.

Google knows this and is getting very good at relating different words together. In short they are slowly learning how to programmatically check if an article is written in a reader friendly way. While keyword stuffing may still work now, if you are following some SEO guru’s advice and using this tactic, be aware that your pages will eventually drop in the rankings.

2) Natural word emphasis: Some gurus like to bold and italicize the keywords randomly in the article to try to convince the search engines that those words are important to the article. With a quick glance a reader can tell if this tactic is used. The page looks forced and none of the words stand out because too many of them have the emphasis on them. While this might be a little harder for the search engines to detect, blatant use of emphasis is pretty easy.

Once again if you’re following some guru’s advice to bold the keyword almost every time it’s used in the article expect your WebPages to only have temporary success in the search engine results.

Natural emphasis will have the best long term affects on SEO. This is a goal that the search engines are trying to reach and they are getting better.

3) Webpage backlinks: The staple of the SEO industry! This is where the gurus really make their money. Churning out hundreds of spun, worthless articles to place on questionable sites with a link back to yours. Once again, yes this works for now but the search engines are constantly looking for ways to identify and remove these pages (and sometimes websites) from their results and even their index altogether.

Start your link building campaign by creating content worth linking to. This is the KEY to long term SEO! You still need to find ways to get backlinks for your webpages so that it will start to rank in the search engine results, but think of how much easier your life would be if, when the person reads your content they decide to tell others about how useful your article was. Quite often they do that with blog posts, bookmarking, social networking, and all the other things that you’re told you need to do to get, “backlinks”.

By creating quality content you talk others into doing all that work for you, and the bonus is they do for it for free!

The only truly long term SEO is Quality Content! This is what the search engines are trying to achieve and they keep getting closer. For now you still need to work on all the other facets of SEO, and it is possible that you always will. But of all the methods of SEO that you chose to use, don’t forget the only method that Google, Bing, and Yahoo will never create an algorithm to exclude as a factor in building their search engine results, Quality Content.
