SEO 101 Unique Content
By Dwayne Goerges of www.topwebsitetips.com
The internet is flooded with poorly written content that comes from someone doing a few minutes of research on a subject and rewriting what was found. This form of content is unimaginative and uninspiring. Usually it’s obvious that the person really didn’t know the subject and was only writing to get enough keywords on the page to get some search engine results. But it does work. The question is why would you spend hours on an article that could be done in minutes? Is there really an advantage to writing insightful unique “quality” content? What is “Quality Content”? If you visit one of the popular SEO forums you will find that every writer, even if they can barely form a sentence in the language they are writing in calls their work “Quality Content”. Spend your $3.00 for a 350 work article and you will find that either the content has been rewritten from another source or is a direct copy of another source and often make no sense whatsoever. Obviously there is a little confusion out there are to what really constitutes “Quality Content”. Let’s define it. Quality Content is content that serves a useful purpose, content that provides a unique perspective on the subject, content that provides information not found elsewhere or at least presents it in a way that is unique to the writer. Why use Quality Content? First Google is getting pretty good at figuring out content that is either a direct duplicate of other content or is rewritten (often by an article spinner). It is Google’s goal to remove all of this low quality content from its index. While they don’t have it down completely now, they are getting better and even if the poor content is working now it will likely be removed in the future. It’s much better to write in a way that will continue to provide results in the future instead of having to replace the content as it gets deindexed. Second, poor quality content usually doesn’t get natural links from other sites. No one wants to link their site to spammy low quality sites. If your site has unique information, it will not only be easier for you to get links to your site, but they will also start coming in from people that view your information and choose to link to it without you’re asking them. This makes you job as a website promoter much easier and faster in the future. Researching content So, does that make it wrong to use internet research in order to write content? In a way you are only rewriting other people content right? In a way that is true. It is defiantly better if you can write the content from your own experience. When it comes directly from your own experience it shows both in the information presented and the enthusiasm you are able to put in the article. But there are ways to do research and still come up with unique content. First, avoid using sites like Wikipedia for your research. These sites have been rewritten or used so many times that there is no ways to rewrite those articles without it being substantially a duplicate of other articles that have been published. When researching try to start with a subject that you already have personal information on, this allows you to include your own perspective on the subject. When using research to fill out an article, read from as many sources as possible, this includes books, magazines, and other printed material. Information published on the internet is far more likely to have already been used to death by the spammy sites. Work on collecting information from sources they are not likely to be able to get to. Now, once the information is in your head, rite from your own impressions, only referring back to the other sources for quick details. I often do work/vacations where I will vacation in an area and while I am there collect as much information as I can in the form of brochures, local magazines and advertisement, maps, visitors guides and then of course writing down my own experiences to add to the writing. Now that I have a stack of information I read through all the information on a particular subject (which will be the theme of my page) and write a page based on this information and my own experience. When people are reading your article they want to know you have actually been there or used the product etc. So include your own personal opinions on the subject. Article Subjects Before you start writing an article first decide why you are writing it. Write to answer someone’s question or to inform, not just to get enough words written using the right keywords. If you are writing about a place, think about what you would want to know if you were looking to go there. Same with a product, assume the person is probably wanting to buy the product, what do they need to know that will help them make a decision. This type of article gets people to link to it. Article style Next decide the style of article. Would the subject best be presented in an informal 1st person manner? Telling your personal experiences in a manner that lets the reader get to know you as the writer is one of the better informal methods of writing about products and locations. Professional articles are usually written in a more formal manner. But even these do well with personal quotes from an authority on the matter (often you, after which you link back to your own site if you are using this as a promotional tool) Quality articles take time. Unless you know the subject well and have no need for additional research, you may spend hours writing a 500 – 1000 word article. But the time is well worth while. Well written articles capture the reader’s attention, encouraging them to come back and read more, developing trust in you as the author and your site as a location for reliable information on a subject of interest to them. And O Yah, this is the type of article Google wants to have in their index!

Thanks :) actually if I remember right you live in a pretty cool place. You should be writing a blog about vacationing and living there. Throw in some higher dollar click subjects like hotels, vacation resorts, plane tix etc. and you can probably make a good side income. That's what I do with http://www.dr-dominicanrepublic.com/.
Thank you for this insight. I have always wondered when I read others say you should be able to write an article in half an hour, I ask why do mine take hours and hours? I feel that what and how we write reflects greatly on ourselves. That's why I love Qondio. There is always something to learn from all the different writers while also being a source of traffic.

This article took me close to an hour to write, including time to decide the flow, content, and finally writing and proofreading. And this was completely from my head, my own experience without having to research facts. It's not at all out of the question to spend a couple hours researching and writing a quality article. More when you are needing to do extensive research to confirm facts.
